A Dhaka court on Tuesday issued travel ban on two former vice-chancellors (VCs) of National University (NU), Harun-or-Rashid and Md Mashiur Rahman, over allegations of irregularities and corruption.
Judge Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Riaz Hossain, a bench assistant of the concerned court, confirmed the development.
ACC Deputy Director Muhammad Joynal Abedin submitted the application seeking the ban on their departure from the country.
The petition stated that a three-member team has been formed to investigate various allegations of irregularities and corruption involving the National University authorities, and the probe is currently underway.
The commission said in its application that it had learned from reliable sources that those involved in the allegations might attempt to flee the country during the investigation.
It further argued that a ban on their overseas travel is essential for the sake of a fair and thorough inquiry into the charges.
