The government has announced a coordinated initiative involving three ministries to tackle gas leakages and the regulation of expired gas cylinders following recent explosions in Chattogram and Cumilla.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain said this after visiting victims of the Halishahar gas explosion at National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Tuesday morning.
He assured that the institute is providing the highest level of medical care, with the hospital authorities supplying all necessary medicines.
Asadul Habib Dulu, minister for Disaster Management and Relief, also visited the victims and said that the ministries of disaster management, industries, and health will work in coordination to prevent such accidents in the future.
He further pledged that the government would provide any additional supplies required for the victims’ recovery.
He also categorised gas leakages as “man-made disasters” that persist throughout the year, specifically citing recent incidents in Halishahar, Chattogram, and Daudkandi, Cumilla.
The three ministries will convene shortly to establish regulations for the use of expired cylinders to ensure that no further losses occur, he added.
Nasir Uddin, director of the burn institute, reported that condition of all the patients remains critical.
