A devastating road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in the Borongail Bus Stand area of Shibaloy Upazila, Manikganj, has resulted in the tragic deaths of a motorcyclist and his wife. The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon.
According to police and local sources, a transport vehicle was heading towards Dhaka from the Paturaya direction. At that time, a pickup van attempted to overtake the vehicle recklessly at high speed.
Just then, a motorcycle was traveling from Dhaka towards Paturaya. On the narrow road, a head-on collision occurred between the vehicles as control was lost.
In the accident, the motorcyclist, Monayem Khan (40), was critically injured. He was a resident of the Chalaban Matir Mosque area in Dhaka’s Dakshinkhan. His wife, Josna Akhtar, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, was also severely injured.
Upon receiving the news, with the help of locals, police quickly arrived at the scene and took steps to rescue the injured and rush them to the hospital. Monayem Khan died on the way to the hospital.
His wife, Josna Akhtar, was admitted to Manikganj 250-bed General Hospital in critical condition, where she also died while undergoing treatment.
After the accident, police recovered the two damaged vehicles and took them into custody. Vehicular movement on the highway was disrupted for some time due to the incident but later returned to normal.
Officer-in-Charge of Borongail Highway Police Station, Harun-or-Rashid, informed that necessary legal action regarding the accident is in process.
