Hollywood star Tom Cruise celebrated his 64th birthday, marking more than four decades as one of the world’s most successful and influential actors. Known for his blockbuster films and commitment to performing many of his own stunts, Tom Cruise continues to remain a dominant force in global cinema.
Born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, Tom Cruise began his acting career in the early 1980s before rising to international fame with films such as Risky Business, Top Gun, Jerry Maguire and the Mission: Impossible franchise. His biggest box office success came with Top Gun: Maverick, which earned more than $1 billion worldwide.
During his career, Tom Cruise received three Academy Award nominations for Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire and Magnolia. He also won three Golden Globe Awards for those performances. Although he has never won a competitive Oscar, the Academy honoured him with an honorary Oscar at the 16th Governors Awards in 2025.
Tom Cruise has earned widespread recognition for performing many of his own high-risk stunts. His most memorable achievements include climbing Dubai’s Burj Khalifa for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and holding his breath for more than six minutes while filming an underwater sequence for Mission:Impossible – Rogue Nation.
Despite facing dyslexia during childhood, Tom Cruise built one of Hollywood’s most successful careers. He also holds a pilot’s licence and enjoys flying aircraft, skydiving and scuba diving.
Top Gun: Maverick marked another major milestone in his career. The film became a global box office hit and helped bring audiences back to cinemas. Director Steven Spielberg later praised Tom Cruise for the film’s impact on the industry.
