Tahseen Md Muhin, freelance photojournalist for TIMES of Bangladesh and a second-year student in the Department of Television, Film and Photography at the University of Dhaka, has been awarded First Runner-Up prize in the Breaking Story category at Season 12 of Break the Circle, a major photography competition that saw an impressive 7,832 total submissions.

Of these entries, 7,732 were in the Single category, while 90 were submitted as photo stories. From this vast pool, judges selected 50 singles and only seven stories, with Muhin’s work standing out prominently among them.

Muhin’s recognised photo story entitled “Being”, delves deep into the intricate terrain of the artist’s inner world. Through a series of carefully crafted frames, he explores the evolving psyche of an individual shaped by both emotional experience and environmental surroundings.

What makes Muhin’s story compelling is the way he weaves together the relationship between human beings and the natural world. His visual narrative emphasises coexistence rather than conflict, portraying nature not just as a backdrop but as an active participant that mirrors human emotion.

Whether through soft light, abstract forms, or subtle movement, the photographs express an intimate conversation between the self and the environment.

The young photographer’s ability to transform internal feelings into artistic representation demonstrates a creative maturity beyond his years. Judges praised the work for its conceptual clarity, atmospheric mood, and poetic interpretation – a unique blend that set his story apart from others.

The selection process, competitive by nature, highlighted works of strong technical execution and narrative depth, making Muhin’s recognition a significant achievement.

For Muhin, this accolade marks more than a line on his resume; it is a meaningful affirmation of his artistic direction. As a student still shaping his craft, the award serves as encouragement to continue refining his visual language and exploring the nuances of storytelling.

With his first major recognition in the Breaking Story category, Tahseen Md Muhin is emerging as a promising young photographer whose work resonates with emotion, sensitivity, and a distinct creative vision.
