A Noakhali court has sentenced three people to death in a case over the killing of three individuals in Noakhali’s Maijdi Bazar in 2016.
Three others were given life imprisonment, while two were acquitted.
Judge Shawkat Ali of the Noakhali District Special Judge’s Court delivered the verdict on Sunday. The court also fined the six convicts Tk 100,000 each.
According to court records, on 21 March 2016, an argument and scuffle broke out between Rajib, 23, and Saurav over bathing a dog at Maijdi Bazar. An arbitration meeting was scheduled for the evening.
That evening, Rajib went to the old campus area of Noakhali Government College with his friends Wasim, 22, and Yasin, 23. They were shot, and Rajib died on the spot. Wasim and Yasin later died while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, Rajib’s mother Kamrun Nahar Begum filed a murder case against eight people with Begumganj Police Station.
Those sentenced to death are Omar Nasir Saju, Omar Sharif Sultan, and Saurav. Those given life terms are Kuddus Ullah, Firoz Mahmud Bappi, and Harunur Rashid Babul.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Advocate Rashed said they were satisfied with the verdict, noting that one convict has been arrested while five remain absconding.
