Three people, including two Buddhist monks and a driver, were killed after a passenger microbus collided with a bus and plunged into a roadside ditch in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram.

At least five others were seriously injured.

Lohagara Fire Service Sub-Officer Firoz Khan confirmed the matter.

The accident took place at around 8:00am on Tuesday in the Kabir Timber Brickfield area on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway under Chunati union.

One of the deceased was identified as Indasara Bhikkhu, 48, son of Mongshi Mog of Pujgang Chowdhuripara in Panchhari upazila of Khagrachhari. The identities of the other two victims could not be confirmed immediately.

Local sources said the monks were returning to Khagrachhari after attending a religious event in Naikhongchhari, Bandarban, when the accident occurred. There were at least five Buddhist monks in the vehicle.

According to a report by Jugantor, Lohagara Fire Service personnel and locals carried out rescue operations. They took the injured to different hospitals. Rescuers recovered three bodies from the scene.

Sub-Officer Firoz Khan said they reached the spot immediately after receiving the report, rescued the injured, sent them to hospitals, and recovered the bodies of the three victims.
