Three children have tragically drowned in separate incidents while visiting their maternal grandparents’ house in Jashore.
On Tuesday morning, two children, Mohammad Mujahid (7) and Apan Hossain (8), died in the Laukhali area of Sadar upazila. Mujahid and Apan were cousins. The same day, another child, Tawhid Hasan (5), drowned in the Dogachia area of Chuadanga Union.
Mujahid’s maternal uncle, Mofizur Rahman, shared that the two children had gone to their maternal grandparents’ house in Satmaile for a family event. While playing, they accidentally fell into the water and drowned. Locals rushed to their aid and transported them to Jessore Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Dr Shakirul Islam, an emergency department doctor at Jessore 250-bed General Hospital, confirmed that the relatives brought the two children to the hospital around 1pm. After initial examination, Mujahid was declared dead. Apan passed away while receiving treatment in the emergency department. Preliminary reports suggest both children drowned.
Meanwhile, Tawhid Hasan, the son of Bipul from Kathal Tala in Dogachia village of Chuadanga Union, also drowned on the same day while visiting his maternal grandparents in the nearby Islampur village.
Tawhid’s maternal grandfather, Taraf Ali, explained that in the morning, Tawhid fell unnoticed into a pond near the house while playing. He was rescued and taken to a local doctor, where he was declared dead.
Officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Hasnat of Kotwali Model Police Station stated that the bodies of the two children are currently at the hospital morgue, while the body of the other child has not yet been brought to the hospital.
