Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said that the teacher recruitment process must remain fully transparent and merit-based, stressing that no qualified candidate should be excluded under any circumstances.
He made the remarks on Friday while addressing the orientation programme for the 2026 academic session at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur.
The minister said he would personally oversee the monitoring process to ensure fairness at all levels, adding that micro-level monitoring will be introduced to strengthen transparency in teacher recruitment.
He warned that political interference or procedural weaknesses could undermine the country’s education system.
He further noted that the Ministry of Education is preparing an Annual Confidential Report (ACR) based on the academic and institutional performance of universities.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s demographic advantage, the minister said the country’s large population could be transformed into skilled human resources through quality, globally competitive education, enabling Bangladesh to achieve a stronger position on the international stage.
Praising universities outside the capital, he said institutions beyond Dhaka offer better academic environments due to their relatively calm settings, which support quality education.
He also emphasised the need to improve global rankings and reduce dependence on Dhaka-based institutions for higher studies.
Addressing students, he said, “The nation and parents are looking towards you. You must use every moment of your university life to become capable contributors to the future of Bangladesh.”
The programme was presided over by HSTU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Enamul Hoque.
National Parliament Whip Akhtaruzzaman Mia, MPs Manjurul Islam, Sadiq Riaz Pinak, Syed Jahangir Alam and Raiyan Siraji, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Shafiqul Islam, Treasurer Jahangir Kabir, among other were present at the event.
