The election schedule for the Bangladesh Tea Workers Union is expected to be announced by 30 August, Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said after meeting Bangladesh Tea Association (BTA) representatives on Monday.
The talks focused on tea workers’ demands and welfare, increasing tea production and improving relations between workers and plantation owners.
Chowdhury discussed the workers’ demands with the owners and expressed optimism that the union election schedule would be announced within the 30 August deadline.
The minister stressed the need to improve workers’ living standards while maintaining good relations between employers and workers, according to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
BTA representatives thanked the government for its continued support for the tea industry.
Labour Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafder, BTA Chairman Kamran Tanvirur Rahman and Secretary General Kazi Muzaffar Ahmed attended the meeting.
