In Sylhet during the Bangladesh Premier League match against Noakhali Express, Dhaka Capitals’ team selection raised questions when Taskin Ahmed was missing, prompting captain Mohammad Mithun to clarify the fast bowler’s situation after the game.
The absence of Taskin from the XI surprised many, given his status as one of Bangladesh’s leading pace bowlers. Mithun explained that the decision was injury-related, confirming that Taskin is currently not fit to play after picking up a problem while representing Dhaka in the 2026 BPL.
“Taskin is not in a condition to play right now,” Mithun said. “He needs a bit of rest. He has gone to Dhaka for a scan. He was not fit to play, that’s why he was not included.”
According to Mithun, Taskin has been sent back from Sylhet to Dhaka to focus on recovery. While the issue has caused concern among supporters, the Dhaka captain suggested the injury may not rule him out for long.
“I unofficially know that if nothing serious comes up, there is a chance he can play again from the Dhaka phase,” Mithun added. “He has a slight problem in his knee.”
The Sylhet phase of the BPL concludes on Tuesday after two matches. Following a two-day break, the Dhaka phase will begin on 15 January, with the hosts set to play their first match on 16 January against Rangpur Riders. Mithun indicated that Taskin could return during that phase if he regains fitness in time.
The injury adds to what has been a difficult tournament so far for Taskin. In five matches, he has taken three wickets while conceding 9.77 runs per over. With a T20 World Cup on the horizon, his form and fitness are emerging as concerns for both Dhaka Capitals and the national team management.
