BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman paid a courtesy call on Islamic Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, popularly known as the Charmonai Pir, at his residence on Monday evening, conveying a message of political goodwill and constructive engagement in the post-election period.
Tarique arrived at the Charmonai Pir residence at 7:15 pm on Siddheshwari Road, Ramna, and was received by Rezaul Karim.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member and Election Management Committee Chairman Nazrul Islam Khan, along with other party leaders, accompanied Tarique Rahman.
Islamic Andolan Bangladesh Secretary General Maulana Yunus Ahmad was also present there.
According to party sources, the meeting focused on fostering political cooperation, ensuring stability, and promoting positive engagement among different parties in the aftermath of the elections.
In a press conference on 14 February, Tarique Rahman had cautioned that rivalries during election campaigns should not escalate into revenge or hostility.
He stressed the importance of collaboration among all political actors in building a safe, democratic, and inclusive Bangladesh.
In the 12 February parliamentary elections, the BNP secured 212 seats, and positioning it to form the government.
Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats, NCP won six seats, and Islamic Andolan Bangladesh won one seat.
Heightened security measures by law enforcement were observed outside the ameer’s residence, along with a significant public presence.
