BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has called for the creation of a nation where every citizen can live with self-respect and dignity. Returning to his home district of Bogura after nearly two decades, he stood in solidarity with children with special needs and urged for an inclusive society.
Speaking as the chief guest at a wheelchair distribution ceremony held at a hotel in Bogura city on Friday at approximately 12pm, the BNP Chairman emphasised the importance of collective effort.
The event, organised by CSF Global, was supported by Tarique’s wife, Zubaida Rahman.
“Let us all strive together to build a Bangladesh where every person will have a sense of dignity and can live with self-respect,” Tarique said.
Reminding society of its responsibility toward children with special needs, he noted that many of them possess talents that others lack. He expressed his belief that if these individuals are supported from all social, political, and state positions, Bangladesh will be able to produce many talented people.
He further stated that these children do not require much – only the opportunity to move normally like others and the chance to develop themselves.
“They are not outsiders; they are part of us. Perhaps there is someone like this within each of our families,” he remarked. He called upon those present to take a pledge to stand by and cooperate with people with disabilities and special needs from their respective positions.
During the event, Zubaida Rahman delivered her first-ever speech in Bogura. She highlighted specific plans for the future of Bangladesh, stating that the BNP is committed to national development and the establishment of humanitarian values.
As part of the programme, wheelchairs were presented to 10 children with special needs. Tarique personally interacted with the children, enquired about their well-being, and enjoyed musical performances by them, creating an emotional atmosphere at the venue.
