BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has lauded renowned photographer and activist Shahidul Alam’s participation in the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission aimed at challenging Israel’s blockade of Gaza.
In a Facebook statement on Saturday, Tarique described Shahidul’s move as “a thunderous voice of conscience,” noting that the decision to board the flotilla was more than a symbolic gesture.
“By hoisting Bangladesh’s flag, he has reminded that our nation never submits to tyranny or injustice. The BNP stands firmly beside him and the people of Palestine—today and always,” the post read.
Tarique’s message came hours after the vessel carrying Shahidul was intercepted in the Mediterranean.
Shahidul Alam became the first Bangladeshi to join the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s (FFC) Media Flotilla, which seeks to pierce the information blackout surrounding the besieged enclave.
