Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim has earned a place on the ICC Player of the Month shortlist for July after leading his side’s run-scoring charts in both white-ball series against Zimbabwe.
Tanzid joins England captain Harry Brook and West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves in the three-man race for the men’s award.
The 25-year-old earned his nomination after producing consistent runs during Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe. Bangladesh lost the one-off Test and the ODI series, but Tanzid played a key role in their recovery in the T20 series.
Bangladesh came from behind to win the three-match contest 2-1, with Tanzid finishing as their leading run-scorer.
He scored 159 runs in three ODIs in Harare at an average of 53.00. He then carried that form into the T20 series in Bulawayo.
Tanzid made 140 runs in three T20 internationals at an average of 70.00 and a strike rate of 127.27. He finished as Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer in both white-ball series.
His nomination puts him up against two strong candidates.
Brook enjoyed a prolific July against India, particularly in the five-match T20 series. The England captain scored 229 runs at an average of 114.50 and a strike rate of 214.01.
He finished as the leading run-scorer and series player of the tournament, although his returns dropped sharply in the following ODI series, where he managed only 31 runs in three matches.
Greaves, meanwhile, impressed with both bat and ball.
The West Indies all-rounder struck 180 against Sri Lanka in the second Test to help his side avoid defeat after Sri Lanka declared on 549 for nine.
He then made an important contribution against Pakistan. Greaves took five for 27 and two for 12 across the two-Test series as West Indies secured a draw.
Across two Tests in July, Greaves scored 215 runs at an average of 71.66 and took eight wickets at 10.25.
Tanzid faces fierce competition, but his consistency across both formats gives him a strong case. His runs also provided one of the few major positives for Bangladesh during a difficult tour before their T20 series fightback.
