The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially recognised Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal as the Full Members’ representative on the ICC Board while appointing him chairman of its newly formed Franchise League Committee.
The appointments were confirmed in an ICC statement on Wednesday following the governing body’s Annual General Meeting. The Franchise League Committee has been tasked with overseeing plans for a proposed World Club T20 tournament featuring champion teams from franchise leagues around the world.
Tamim will work alongside several senior cricket administrators on the committee, including BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg, ECB chief executive Richard Gould and Cricket Namibia president Dr Rudie van Vuuren.
The ICC also made several governance decisions during the meeting. Sri Lanka Cricket was urged to establish an elected administration as soon as possible and will remain unrepresented at ICC Board meetings until then.
France Cricket was placed on notice for failing to meet membership criteria, while Cricket Canada was instructed to meet specific conditions before its suspended membership can be reinstated.
The governing body also approved a US$12.82 million financial support package for Cricket West Indies to strengthen its long-term financial sustainability and support the development of cricket across the Caribbean.
