India’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced another extraordinary display of batting, adding yet more records to his growing list during the opening round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Still only 14, Suryavanshi smashed a breathtaking 190 off 84 balls for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi on 24 December 2025, narrowly missing out on a historic double century.
Suryavanshi’s innings underlined why he is no longer viewed as a novelty act. Explosive performances have become routine for the left-hander, yet he continues to redefine expectations. On the opening day of India’s premier domestic one-day competition, he dominated the bowling from start to finish, scoring 154 of his runs in boundaries, including 16 fours and 15 towering sixes.
At 14 years and 272 days, Suryavanshi became the youngest centurion in List A cricket, surpassing the long-standing record held by former Pakistan opener Zaheer Elahi, who reached the landmark at 15 years and 209 days in 1986. His century came in just 36 balls, having earlier reached fifty from 25 deliveries before racing through the next fifty in only 11 balls, a sequence that included six sixes.
Only three players in List A history have scored hundreds in fewer deliveries. Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk leads the list with a 29-ball century in 2023, while AB de Villiers’ iconic 31-ball hundred against West Indies in 2015 remains the fastest in international ODIs. India’s Anmolpreet Singh reached three figures in 35 balls last year.
While the hundred was not the fastest on record, Suryavanshi did create history by registering the quickest 150 in List A cricket, reaching the milestone in 59 balls and eclipsing de Villiers’ previous mark of 64 deliveries. He looked set to push on to a double century before being dismissed by Techi Neri on 190, with Bihar still in the 27th over. The fastest List A double hundred remains Chad Bowes’ 103-ball effort for New Zealand.
Suryavanshi’s rise over the past year has been remarkable. After being picked up at the IPL auction at just 13, he became the youngest centurion in the league’s history with Rajasthan Royals. He has since dominated age-group cricket, scoring heavily on tours of Australia and England and amassing 355 runs in a youth ODI series in England at a strike rate of 174.
This innings marked his first senior hundred outside T20 cricket. Suryavanshi will play only the opening matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy before linking up with India’s Under-19 squad for next month’s Under-19 World Cup.
