A Bangladeshi stevedore has gone missing after falling overboard from a cargo ship at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port on Sunday.
The missing stevedore has been identified as Yasin, 50. A joint search and rescue operation by the Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard is underway.
According to the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA), Yasin fell from the Singapore-flagged cargo vessel MV Crimson Grace at Alpha Anchorage at around 11:37am on Sunday.
CPA Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said Yasin went missing in a “man overboard” incident while the vessel was anchored at Alpha Anchorage.
“The Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard have been notified for immediate rescue operations. Continuous VHF broadcasts are also being made through the CPA radio to alert nearby vessels and assist in the search,” he said.
A stevedore is a worker engaged in loading and unloading cargo from ships.
According to ship-tracking website MarineTraffic, MV Crimson Grace arrived at Chattogram Port on 5 August carrying cargo from the Port of San Lorenzo in Argentina.
