Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has called an emergency press conference for 5pm Friday, following the receipt of the president’s resignation.
According to a press release issued by the assistant director of Parliament Secretariat Public Relations Branch, the briefing will take place at the Oath Room of Parliament.
Speaker Ahmed returned to Dhaka from Bangkok earlier this afternoon, landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at approximately 12:15pm. He had travelled to Bangkok on 19 July for a scheduled health check-up.
Upon his arrival at the airport, the speaker spoke with journalists and initially stated that he had no information regarding the resignation of president.
The announcement of the emergency briefing follows his return to the capital.
