The Spanish Super Cup will once again be staged in Saudi Arabia, with Jeddah confirmed as the host city for the 2026 edition of the tournament. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced that the competition will run from 7 to 11 January at King Abdullah Sports City, a venue that has become a familiar stage for Spanish football in recent years.
This will be the third time that Jeddah has staged the Super Cup since the agreement to take the competition abroad was introduced in 2020. Jeddah hosted the inaugural Saudi Arabia edition in 2020, before Riyadh took over as host for four straight years. Last season, the tournament returned to Jeddah, and now the city has been awarded consecutive editions for the first time.
The format, which brings together four of Spain’s biggest clubs, will again serve up heavyweight clashes. Barcelona will meet Athletic Club in the first semi-final, while Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will contest the second. The latter fixture carries added intrigue, with Real Madrid out to avenge a painful 5-2 league defeat to Diego Simeone’s men just last weekend.
There is added history between the Madrid rivals in this competition. The two sides contested the final of the 2020 edition in Jeddah, where Real Madrid triumphed on penalties. However, the capital giants suffered disappointment last season at the same venue, losing to Barcelona in a tense final.
For Saudi Arabia, the tournament is another opportunity to showcase its growing influence on world sport. With the 2035 World Cup already secured, the Spanish Super Cup provides another high-profile stage to display infrastructure, organisation, and ambition to a global audience.
The tournament also puts the spotlight on star players, including Vinicius Junior, who has been a long-time target for Saudi clubs and now reportedly interests several Premier League sides as well.
