Spain forward Claudia Pina scored twice in the second half on Tuesday as Spain beat Germany 3–0 in Madrid to secure the Women’s Nations League title, completing the job after a scoreless first leg in Kaiserslautern on Friday.
Germany had controlled the opening match and wasted several chances, a wastefulness they came to regret as the pattern flipped in Spain. The hosts started with pace and precision but found Ann-Katrin Berger in defiant form. After more than 150 minutes without a breakthrough across the tie, Pina finally broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when a rare lapse in the German back line proved decisive.
Tracked by Giulia Gwinn, Pina drifted in from the left and combined with Esther Gonzalez. A momentary switch-off from the German defence gave Pina the window she needed and, although Berger got a hand to the shot, she could not prevent it from finding the net.
Vicky Lopez doubled the lead seven minutes later from a near-identical zone of the pitch. Cutting in from the right, she shaped a curling finish beyond Berger without requiring any defensive mistake.
Pina then delivered the highlight of the night. Collecting possession in central midfield, she drove forward at full stride before striking an unstoppable effort into the top corner in the 74th minute, sealing Spain’s second straight title after their triumph over France in the inaugural final in 2024.
Spain coach Sonia Bermudez told RTVE, “It is a very beautiful day to enjoy. There in Germany, we were not the Spain we want to be. We knew we would have the support of the people here and they have been very important.”
She added, “They have achieved it. They have mobilised 70,000 people to watch them play. It is a very ambitious group and today we had a difficult opponent, so it is a day to enjoy.”
