Spain’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final sparked celebrations, heartbreak, humour and emotional tributes from celebrities in Bangladesh and beyond.
As football fans around the world reacted to Spain’s triumph, Bangladeshi showbiz stars Shakib Khan, Shabnam Bubly and Apu Biswas congratulated the new champions on social media.
Shakib Khan wrote on his official Facebook page, “Congratulations to Spain on winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
Shabnam Bubly praised the Spanish team, writing, “Many congratulations to Spain! They truly deserve it. FIFA Football World Cup 2026 champions.”
Apu Biswas shared a brief message, writing, “Congratulations, Spain.”
Actor Pori Moni reacted to Argentina’s defeat with humour. Before the final, she had joked that she would marry again if Argentina won the tournament.
After Spain’s victory, she wrote, “Looks like I don’t have to get married after all. My beloved Argentina, we’ll meet again.”
Argentina’s defeat also inspired a humorous reaction from actor Keya Payel, an Argentina supporter. She shared a video of herself setting off fireworks on a rooftop, explaining that she had bought them to celebrate a possible Argentina win.
“I thought I’d light them if Argentina won. But they would go to waste, so I set them off anyway,” she wrote.
She later joked in the comments, “I didn’t play today. If I had, we would have won.”
Presenter and actor Shariar Nazim Joy also drew attention with a playful post on his verified Facebook account.
“Congratulations, Brazil. Oops, Spain. But if it had been any team other than Argentina, the match would have ended 8-0,” he wrote.
Singer Monir Khan highlighted Lionel Messi’s performance, saying the Argentina captain deserved to be named the best player of the tournament despite missing out on the Golden Ball.
Messi scored eight goals and provided four assists, while France captain Kylian Mbappé won the Golden Boot with 10 goals.
“Compared with the 2022 World Cup, Messi was even more dangerous and effective in 2026. Considering his individual performances, goals, assists, chance creation and overall influence on the team, this was the best World Cup of his career,” Monir wrote.
He also rejected claims that Messi received special treatment from FIFA, saying, “If Messi had really received special treatment from FIFA, he would not have missed out on the Golden Ball this time. And even if he had won it, he would have deserved it based on his performances on the pitch.”
Veteran Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan also paid tribute to Messi after Argentina’s defeat.
“The game… over… Spain the Champions and Messi lost… tears of emotion… sad… but the day comes for every champion… as you turn the corner, you find there are others better than you… accept the love that came your way… rest in that glory,” Bachchan wrote on his blog.
The 83-year-old actor, who watched the final after meeting fans outside his Mumbai residence, Jalsa, has followed the tournament closely through his blog.
