Paramount Pictures has scheduled new entries in the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ franchises for 2028. The untitled TMNT film is set for November 17, 2028, while an untitled Sonic Universe Event Film will hit cinemas on December 22, 2028.
Details on both projects remain scarce. Producer Neal H. Moritz, who helmed the successful Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy, is producing the new TMNT adventure. The film will be a family-friendly live-action/CG animation hybrid featuring Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo, marking the first live-action Ninja Turtles movie since 2016’s ‘Out of the Shadows’.
Paramount has focused on animation since 2023’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’, with its sequel slated for September 17, 2027.
The upcoming Sonic film is distinct from ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’, scheduled for March 19, 2027. The franchise has been highly profitable, with the first three films grossing over $1 billion worldwide.
Paramount also confirmed the return of ‘Top Gun’ to cinemas on May 13, 2026, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1986 original. The franchise saw a massive resurgence with 2022’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, which earned $1.49 billion globally, becoming Paramount’s highest-grossing film to date.
