Several BNP leaders have confirmed to TIMES of Bangladesh that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s physical condition has shown some improvement. They mentioned that the phlegm accumulated in her chest has decreased somewhat.
However, the only official information regarding Khleda aZia’s health will be provided by her personal doctor, AZM Zahid Hossain.
On Thursday, he stated that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia remains under intensive observation in the hospital’s Critical Care Unit.
Meanwhile, according to the BNP Media Cell, Zubaida Rahman, the wife of Tarique Rahman, has departed from Heathrow Airport at 6:03pm London time on a direct London-Dhaka flight by Bangladesh Airlines to return to the country.
BNP Media Cell member Atikur Rahman Ruman confirmed the information, saying, “Zubaida Rahman has departed from Heathrow Airport. She is on her way to Dhaka. Inshallah, the flight will reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka by 10am on Friday.”
Upon arrival, Zubaida Rahman is expected to go directly to Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara to visit Khaleda Zia. After the visit, a Royal Ambulance from Qatar will transport the BNP Chairperson, and the flight will depart for London.
The air ambulance from Qatar’s royal family is scheduled to take Begum Zia to London.
However, due to technical issues, there has been a delay in the plane’s arrival in Dhaka, raising concerns over Khaleda Zia’s health condition.
TIMES of Bangladesh journalists reported from outside Evercare Hospital that, at this moment, no party leaders or activists are present at the hospital. Law enforcement agencies have deployed sufficient personnel for Khaleda Zia’s security. A crowd of curious onlookers has gathered outside the hospital.
On the night of 234 November, Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties. Tests revealed a lung infection, and she was hospitalized for treatment.
Nearly 80 years old, Khaleda Zia has been suffering from long-standing health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney complications. On November 30, her condition worsened, and she was moved to the ICU. Doctors continue to consider her health status as ‘critical.’
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated on Thursday night, “Khaleda Zia’s condition remains unchanged. She is in the same condition as before.”
Confirming the “technical issues” with the air ambulance from Qatar, he added, “Qatar is considering alternatives. If the alternative is confirmed, we will depart for London at any time during the day, as we cannot travel in the early morning.”
Earlier, on 7 January of this year, Khaleda Zia was taken to London for advanced treatment via an air ambulance provided by Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. She received treatment at the London Clinic.
After four months of treatment, on May 5, she returned to the country on the same air ambulance from Qatar’s Amir.
