SM Siddique, also known as Azad Siddique, the younger brother of former lawmakers Latif Siddique and Kader Siddique, was stopped at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday morning while attempting to travel to Bangkok, Thailand.
According to a reliable source at the airport, SM Siddique, accompanied by his wife, arrived at the terminal for a scheduled 10am flight.
Upon reaching immigration, he was questioned by officials and later denied departure due to an active travel restriction.
A former upazila chairman of Kalihati in Tangail, SM Siddique was not permitted to board the flight, and both he and his wife were asked to return.
The incident follows the recent arrest of his elder brother, former MP Latif Siddique, who was detained last week at a roundtable discussion organised by a platform named ‘Mancha 71’ at the Dhaka Reporters Unity. He was later shown arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act and sent to jail.
