Singer SI Tutul is returning to the music scene after several years with a new band, AB King.
The band officially began its journey on 16 August, coinciding with the birth anniversary of legendary musician Ayub Bachchu.
All four members of AB King had the opportunity to receive Bachchu’s affection and guidance.
Tutul was also one of the founding members of LRB, the band formed by Bachchu.
The band features Nafiz Al Amin on drums and vocals, Iftekhar Ifti on lead guitar and vocals, Akash Ahsan on bass and vocals, and SI Tutul on keyboards and vocals.
Ishtiaq A Siddiqui serves as the band’s manager.
Speaking about the band, Tutul said, “We all share a deep emotional connection with Guruji Ayub Bachchu. We want to nurture that emotion.”
Alongside performing their own songs and creating new music, AB King will also perform songs by Bachchu and other legendary Bangladeshi musicians.
Describing AB King as a musical platform, Tutul said it is the first full-fledged Bangladeshi band in America.
The group plans to perform Bengali songs as well as English songs to connect with audiences from different linguistic backgrounds.
AB King also aims to operate beyond music performances by organising concerts and other events.
The band plans to establish an advisory panel, with its members to be announced later.
The group will make its live debut on 19 September at a concert organised by Sonar Bangla Foundation in Houston.
It will also perform in several US states, including Virginia and New York, as part of its tour this year.
Tutul was initially a member of LRB before forming another band, Face to Face, which was later renamed Dhrubotara. AB King marks the singer’s third band.
