Bangladesh left-arm fast bowler Shoriful Islam was taken to a local hospital in Sylhet on Sunday after sustaining a probable head injury during Chattogram Royals’ scheduled practice session.
The incident occurred early in the session at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) outer ground, when Shoriful accidentally collided with teammate Zahiduzzaman Sagar during the warm-up.
A source close to the team revealed that Shoriful was sitting on the ground before practice when wicketkeeper-batter Zahiduzzaman’s knee struck his head. He was immediately taken back to the dressing room and advised to rest.
Shoriful was later absent from the nets while his teammates continued training at full intensity. The pacer has also been suffering from a cold in recent days.
With BCB-owned Chattogram Royals set to play their second match against Rangpur Riders, the team management opted not to take any risks and sent the left-arm quick to a local hospital as a precaution.
According to a source, Shoriful has since been shifted back to the team hotel after undergoing primary tests under concussion protocols.
