Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested Rahim, a key accused in the murder of Azizur Rahman Musabbir, former general secretary of the Dhaka City North unit of Swechchhasebak Dal.
Rahim is widely known to police as a professional ‘shooter’.
DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam confirmed that Rahim was apprehended on Friday from Narsingdi.
The police recovered the firearm allegedly used in the killing during the arrest.
Earlier on Thursday, another accused in the same case, Billal, was sent to jail after completing his remand period.
According to the case details, on 7 January Musabbir was socialising with friends near West Tejturi Marke as usual.
Around 8:10pm, he left for home. Ten minutes later, four to five unidentified assailants intercepted and opened fire.
Musabbir collapsed after being shot. Sufian Bepari Masud attempted to help him, the assailants also shot Masud. Locals rushed both victims to hospital, where doctors declared Musabbir dead. Masud was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Musabbir’s wife, Suraiya Begum, 42, filed a murder case at Tejgaon Police Station on the same day.
