Artist Anindita Oni’s first solo exhibition, ‘She in Stone’, opened on Friday, 19 June , at Dagi Art Garage in Hazaribagh, Dhaka, presenting a collection of works that explore women’s lives, emotions and transformations through the medium of stone.
The exhibition features 30 artworks created with acrylic paint on natural stones. Through these works, the artist portrays different stages of a woman’s journey, including childhood, adolescence, dreams, love, motherhood, struggle, silence and self-discovery.
The exhibition will continue until 23 June and will remain open to visitors daily from 4 pm to 8 pm. It was inaugurated by artist and cultural organiser Sonia Binita Hasan.
For the exhibition, Anindita Oni used natural stones collected from various rivers. Rather than treating them simply as surfaces for painting, she incorporated each stone’s natural shape, lines, textures and colours into the artworks themselves.
Works such as Emergence, ‘A Time of Dreams’, ‘A Seed of Hope’, ‘The Unfolding Wings’ and ‘Face of Resilience’ reflect themes of aspiration, confidence and personal growth.
Meanwhile, ‘Veil of Silence’, ‘The Unspoken Weight’, ‘Generations’ and ‘The Red Witness’ explore memory, relationships, inheritance and silent sorrow.
Speaking about the exhibition, the artist said stone is not merely a material but a symbol of time, memory and permanence.
“Just as the flow of a river gradually reshapes a stone, life, love, struggle and experience continuously shape a woman’s identity,” she said.
