PN Composite Ltd and Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide students with practical exposure and industry-focused learning opportunities in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector.
The partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic education and professional requirements by helping students gain hands-on experience and better understand factory operations.
The agreement was signed on Sunday at Shanto-Mariam University. PN Composite Managing Director Tapan Kumar Saha and Shanto-Mariam University Registrar Par Mashiyur Rahman signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Speaking at the signing event, Tapan Kumar Saha said practical experience on the factory floor was essential for building careers in the RMG sector, although many newcomers preferred office-based roles.
He said PN Composite wanted to invest in developing local talent rather than depending on foreign employees and would support young professionals through training opportunities.
“Instead of spending our hard-earned money on hiring foreign employees, we want to invest in the sons and daughters of our own country,” he said, adding that those joining the workforce must also show sincerity, dedication and commitment.
Shanto-Mariam University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mostafizul Haque said students’ education becomes complete when they enter the professional arena and receive industry support.
He said the university was working to prepare students through experienced faculty, updated curricula and an appropriate learning environment.
Shanto-Mariam University Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Shah-e-Alam expressed hope that the partnership would contribute to the development of Bangladesh’s RMG sector.
During the event, PN Composite General Manager (Marketing and Merchandising) James Baroi and Consultant BM Sharif highlighted the company’s garment production, quality standards, market demand and workforce experience.
Representatives from Shanto-Mariam University’s Faculty of Design and Technology and Apparel Manufacturing Management and Technology Department also presented their academic activities and the growing demand for professional skills in the sector.
The event was attended by university officials, faculty members and representatives from PN Composite.
