Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan believes Nahid Rana’s injury has deprived both Bangladesh and Australia of one of the most anticipated contests in the upcoming two-Test series. The 22-year-old fast bowler will miss the tour after suffering a Grade 2 side strain.

Shakib said Australia’s batters had looked forward to facing Rana on the fast and bouncy pitches that suit his style.

“I think even the Australians were looking forward to facing Rana in their own conditions. It was a challenge they would have gladly accepted. So, his absence is a huge loss,” Shakib told RevSportz.

Shakib also highlighted Bangladesh’s progress in pace bowling, but warned the team cannot rely on one department alone.

“We are doing really well in the pace bowling department, which is a great sign for Bangladesh cricket. But that doesn’t mean we can afford to fall behind in other areas. Batting and spin bowling are equally important. It’s great that the pacers are performing well, but if the batters and spinners can also raise their level, Bangladesh will become a much stronger team,” he said.

Australia selected a full-strength squad for the World Test Championship series, a decision Shakib expected from one of the leading Test nations.

“Teams like Australia, England, India and South Africa take Test cricket very seriously. Regardless of the opposition or venue, they always try to field their strongest side. So, I wasn’t surprised to see Australia pick their best available squad,” he said.

Shakib added that the World Test Championship also influenced Australia’s selection.

“I think because this series is part of the World Test Championship, they don’t want to lose any valuable points. Besides, their players have had enough rest, so they can comfortably field their strongest XI,” he said.
