Regarding the role of security forces, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has expressed his satisfaction with their role during the elections.

The Jamaat chief made the remark during an emergency press conference held in Mirpur on Thursday, following his visit to polling centres within his constituency, Dhaka-15.

He stated that he expects them to maintain this role until the conclusion of the voting process and the announcement of results.

However, the Jamaat ameer stated that the party would not be able to accept the election as fair if attacks and the capturing of polling centres are not brought under control.

Shafiqur Rahman alleged that supporters of an opposition candidate had carried out an attack on his followers at a centre in Mirpur.

He further claimed that polling centres were being occupied in various locations across the country and noted that one of their candidates had been targeted.

“If these incidents are not controlled, we will not be able to accept that the vote has been fair,” he cautioned.

Reflecting on the political context, Shafiqur Rahman remarked that today’s election is the “collective fruit” of all the sacrifices made against fascism. He expressed hope that the spirit of the July uprising would prevail in the polls.

Commenting on voter turnout, he described the presence of voters as satisfactory and anticipated that a significant number of people would participate in the election. He added that the public would no longer welcome any new form of fascism.
