The official gazette naming the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was published on Saturday.
The notification, issued by order of the Speaker and signed by Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Maula, was dated March 12.
According to the gazette, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has been appointed Leader of the Opposition in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, with Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher named Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Nahid Islam, the convenor of the National Citizen Party, has been appointed Opposition Chief Whip.
In the recent general election, Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats while contesting as part of an alliance.
With the inclusion of two seats from the National Citizen Party and Khelafat Majlish, the strength of the opposition alliance in the 13th parliament has risen to 77 seats.
