Shadman Islam has finally secured a place in the Bangladesh Premier League after Chattogram Royals signed the opener for the remainder of the season. The left-hander, who went unsold at the auction, has been drafted in to bolster the side’s batting resources for the business end of the tournament.
This move marks Shadman’s return to the BPL after a five-year absence. He last appeared in the competition in 2020 and has previously represented Dhaka Dynamites, Chattogram Challengers and Rangpur Rangers. Chattogram will be the fourth franchise of his BPL career.
Despite missing out on the league in recent seasons, Shadman has remained a regular feature in domestic cricket and has enjoyed a productive run with the bat. His most recent outing in the National Cricket League T20 saw him score 192 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 151.18, including a century, form that played a key role in Chattogram’s decision to bring him in.
Chattogram have also strengthened their squad by adding four overseas players. Pakistanis Asif Ali, Aamer Jamal and Hasan Nawaz have joined the franchise, while England wicketkeeper-batter Adam Rossington has also been signed. Asif Ali and Aamer Jamal bring prior BPL experience, while Nawaz and Rossington are set for their first appearances in the tournament.
Sources close to the team confirmed to The Times of Bangladesh that all newly signed players have received no-objection certificates from their respective boards, clearing the way for their immediate availability for Chattogram Royals.
