Bangladesh continued their dominance on the second day of the first Test against Ireland with a complete team effort.
The morning began perfectly for the hosts as Ireland lost two wickets early. Taijul Islam and Hasan Mahmud struck in quick succession to put pressure on the visitors. Debutant Hasan Murad impressed in his very first Test, taking three wickets and ending Ireland’s innings on a memorable note.
Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Hasan Mahmud each picked up two wickets, while Nahid Rana claimed one to wrap up the Irish innings.
In reply, Bangladesh’s openers walked out with clear intent. Shadman Islam looked confident, playing crisp drives and powerful cuts on both the front and back foot. Mahmudul Hasan Joy supported him well, playing with control and timing.
Shadman reached his third fifty-plus score in the last six innings, playing in a one-day rhythm. Joy, too, found his form after a long gap, scoring his first half-century since November 2023.
Their steady partnership brought up a century stand just before lunch, earning applause from both the dressing room and the crowd. Bangladesh ended the session firmly in control, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
