Three people, including a motorcycle garage employee and an elderly man, were killed in separate road accidents in Cox’s Bazar town and Teknaf on Thursday.
The fatalities occurred during the morning and afternoon hours of 2 April, with two deaths reported in the district town and one in Teknaf.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Kamrul (18), an employee at a motorcycle garage in the Bikash Building area; Kamal Uddin (35), a resident of the BGB Camp area originally from Maheshkhali; and Ishaque Ahmed (65), of the Marishbunia area in Teknaf.
According to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Chhomiuddin, the town accident occurred at approximately 1pm when a speeding motorcycle hit a pedestrian in the BGB Camp area. The collision caused the motorcycle rider to be thrown onto the road, where both individuals were then run over by an auto-rickshaw arriving from the opposite direction. Both victims were pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital, and police have since seized the motorcycle and the auto-rickshaw involved.
In a separate incident at 11am on the Marine Drive road in Teknaf, Ishaque Ahmed was struck by a rented motorcycle carrying two tourists while he was crossing the road. Inspector Durjoy Biswas, in-charge of the Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre, stated that the motorcyclists fled the scene, though the vehicle has been seized.
Md Shahidul Alam, the Residential Medical Officer (RMO) of Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, confirmed that all three individuals were dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The bodies are currently being held at the hospital morgue.
