Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday stated that the current government’s objective is to fulfil the short-term expectations of the people, alongside its long-term goals.
The minister made these remarks during a courtesy meeting with the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Board of Directors at his office in the Secretariat this afternoon.
He emphasised that the government’s primary priority is to ensure a favourable environment for trade and commerce by maintaining stability and controlling the law and order situation.
“Our priorities also include keeping the market situation normal by controlling the prices of essential commodities,” he said.
Salahuddin added that the government is working to ensure that commodity prices are not artificially inflated and to dismantle the syndicates that have persisted for the last 10 to 15 years.
He further noted that the security of trade and business would be ensured through new or creative approaches rather than traditional methods.
Regarding the transport sector, the minister expressed the government’s intent to restore discipline. He announced that necessary steps, including the nationwide eradication of extortion, would be taken, beginning in divisional or major cities.
Salahuddin stressed the need for cooperation from the administration, police, and all relevant stakeholders to achieve this.
During the meeting, DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed sought the Minister’s cooperation in improving the law and order situation, preventing extortion, and restoring discipline in the transport sector.
The meeting was attended by, among others, DCCI Senior Vice President Rajib H Chowdhury, Vice President Md Salem Solaiman, and Secretary Dr AKM Asaduzzaman Patwary.
