Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s iconic film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ remains one of the most celebrated works in Indian cinema. Alongside its extraordinary box office success, the film holds numerous accolades, including the record for the longest continuous run in cinemas. Fans across the world fondly refer to it as DDLJ.
30 years after its release, a bronze sculpture depicting Shah Rukh’s character Raj and Kajol’s character Simran has been unveiled in London’s Leicester Square. Local authorities installed the artwork to honour DDLJ as the world’s longest-running film.
Both Shah Rukh and Kajol were present at the unveiling ceremony. In a video shared online, Shah Rukh is seen standing with an umbrella beside Kajol as they reveal the sculpture. He appeared visibly emotional, with tears in his eyes.
Fans were thrilled to see the beloved pair reunited for an event dedicated to one of the most memorable partnerships in Indian cinema. Images and videos from the ceremony spread rapidly across social media.
Standing beside their sculpted counterparts, Shah Rukh and Kajol seemed to evoke the romance of Raj and Simran from three decades earlier. Kajol wore a sea-blue saree, while Shah Rukh appeared in a traditional black outfit.
Released in 1995, DDLJ became a worldwide sensation and was the highest-grossing Indian film of that year, earning approximately Rs 102.5 crore. At the time, such commercial success was considered remarkable.
