A ninth-grader Rakibul Hasan ,15, has been missing for eight days following his abduction in Muradnagar upazilla in Cumilla.
Rakibul, the only son of Mohammad Hasan, hails from Dakkhinkhandi village in South Ramchandrapur. He went missing on 15 October.
According to his family, Rakibul left home that morning for his regular classes at Ghorashal Abdul Karim High School but never returned after school ended. Despite searching the homes of relatives and friends, the family failed to trace him.
Days later, unidentified individuals called Rakibul’s family demanding a ransom of Tk 12,000, assuring that the boy would be returned to the Ghorashal school field once the money was paid.
Rakibul’s father managed to send Tk 4,000 via bKash, but the abductors went silent afterward. The family subsequently lodged complaints with Muradnagar Police Station, the Cumilla Superintendent of Police, and RAB-11.
RAB-11 Commanding Officer Major Sadman said, “The number used to demand ransom has been changing locations repeatedly. We are hopeful that the schoolboy will be rescued soon.”
Cumilla DB Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdullah added, “The family has filed a complaint, and efforts are underway to rescue the student.”
