Sarika Sabah has made a striking return to the screen, proving that presence, not screen time, can command attention. Her brief but memorable turn as Roshni in Jahid Preetom’s melancholic romance ‘Emon Dine Tare Bola Jay’ has become one of the telefilm’s biggest talking points.

After nearly two years away from television, the former ‘Family Crisis’ star re-emerged with a more selective mindset. She had openly shared in May that she refused to return without finding roles offering real variation and challenge.

That opportunity took shape after a chance conversation with director Jahid Preetom at the Meril-Prothom Alo Awards. Months later, his story of Abantika (Priyontee Urbee) and Shawon (Tawsif Mahbub) presented Sarika with the spark she sought. The quietly powerful character of Roshni reminded her of the feminine grace in Humayun Ahmed’s writing, enough to seal her return.

Her transformation was also physical. Sarika shed 24 kilograms during her hiatus, making her on-screen appearance feel like a reintroduction. Though omitted from promotions to preserve the twist, fan reactions arrived instantly upon release, filling her inbox with praise.

Sarika has been rebuilding momentum with recent work, including ‘Page Turner’, the final instalment of the ‘Closeup Kache Ashar Golpo’ 2025 anthology, opposite newcomer Faizul Yameen.
