A Russian aerial attack killed one person in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region on Tuesday, following a wave of deadly cross-border assaults that left at least 22 people dead in Russia and Ukraine a day earlier.
Ukrainian strikes killed 11 people and injured dozens in Russia’s Black Sea resort region and Russian-annexed Crimea, while Russian attacks claimed 11 lives across Ukraine on Monday, reports Al Jazeera.
“Russians attacked the city’s civilian infrastructure with guided aerial bombs,” Sumy regional military administration head Oleg Grygorov said on Telegram, reports AFP.
“Sadly, there is information about one dead at this time. There are also wounded.”
According to Grygorov, guided bombs hit three sites in Sumy’s Kovpakivsky district, causing damage to residential properties and infrastructure.
Russian officials said seven people, among them three children, died after drone debris fell on the resort village of Arkhipo-Osipovka near Gelendzhik in the southern Krasnodar region on Monday. Nearly 40 others were injured.
Sergey Aksyonov, the Moscow-appointed leader of Russian-controlled Crimea, said four people were killed and two others wounded on the peninsula. In Russia’s Belgorod border region, Acting Governor Alexander Shuvaev reported four civilian deaths and 17 injuries.
In Ukraine, a Russian strike on a petrol station in the Kryvyi Rih district of Dnipropetrovsk region killed three people, including an emergency worker and his eight-year-old son. Regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said the attack ignited a fire that damaged the filling station and nearby vehicles.
Later the same day, an overnight Russian assault on Zaporizhzhia killed eight more people, including two children.
Russia’s Defence Ministry also announced on Monday that its troops had taken control of the settlements of Bilyi Kolodiaz and Uspenivka in Ukraine’s eastern Kharkiv region.
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian drone hit a warehouse owned by Russian e-commerce company Wildberries in the village of Khryastovo in Russia’s Vladimir region.
Although both Moscow and Kyiv deny deliberately targeting civilians, civilian casualties have risen in recent months.
Russia has carried out regular attacks across Ukraine since launching its full-scale invasion in February 2022, including strikes launched from the Crimean peninsula.
According to an AFP assessment of data from the Institute for the Study of War, the frontline saw little movement during July, with Ukrainian forces largely containing Russia’s battlefield advances.
