The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday appointed Secretary Md Ruhul Alam Siddique to oversee routine functions of the Foreign Secretary’s office until further notice, following the departure of Md Jashim Uddin from his post.
The ministry issued an official order confirming the matter, with the new appoint slated to take effect from May 23.
Md Jashim Uddin, the 27th Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh and a career diplomat since 1994, had been serving in the role since his appointment in September last y0ear. A member of the 13th batch of BCS (Foreign Affairs) Cadre, Jashim held various diplomatic positions both domestically and internationally.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain clarified on Wednesday that Jashim’s departure was not a removal but a voluntary relinquishment of duties.
“There is no issue of removal. He wishes to leave this responsibility for personal reasons. He remains in service and will be reassigned shortly,” Hossain said.
Until the formal appointment of a new foreign secretary, an acting foreign secretary will take their place, according to UNB.
