Once seen as a backup opener and wicketkeeper-batter, she now stands as proof that dreams should not be bound.
Rubya has silenced every critic with a stunning unbeaten 54 off 77 balls on her ODI debut. Born on July 22, 1997, she stands as another fearless tigress carrying Bangladesh’s flag on the international cricket stage.
But her journey to this moment was not easy. For over a decade, from 2012 to 2022, Rubya was a familiar name in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket scene, waiting patiently for her international breakthrough. While others might have given up after years of being overlooked, Rubya chose resilience. She kept training, kept believing and kept showing up.
Her persistence paid off in 2023 when she finally earned her maiden call to Bangladesh’s T20 International and ODI squads for the series against Sri Lanka. She made her T20I debut on May 9 that year and soon helped Bangladesh A reach the finals of the ACC Women’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
Just when things were looking up, Rubya’s career hit a roadblock. A knee injury in July 2023 forced her out of the T20I squad, taking a toll on her mental and physical well-being. But, true to her spirit, she came back stronger. By April 2024, she had fought her way back into the national side, proving that setbacks are merely setups for comebacks.
Her patience and dedication were rewarded again when she marked her ODI debut against Pakistan with a match-winning half-century.
