Veteran actress Rozina has announced that shooting is set to begin for her upcoming film ‘Ekhoni Shomoy’, marking a new chapter in her long-standing career in Bangladeshi cinema.
The project comes several years after the initial announcement and will be her second film as a lead in this phase of her career. Rozina confirmed that preparations are now underway, with production expected to begin later this year, subject to budget finalisation and scheduling.
Written by filmmaker and storyteller Chatku Ahmed, the film is described as a reflection of contemporary society, exploring themes of love, friendship and social realities. Rozina said the narrative will also carry a strong message against dowry, alongside other relevant social issues.
She added that while the cast has not yet been finalised, the project is still in its early development stage. According to her, the story is more layered and impactful compared to her previous work.
Rozina praised the writer-director for his creative approach, saying she entrusted him with the script due to her confidence in his vision. However, she noted that financial planning remains a key factor before production can move forward.
The actress also shared that she spent her recent birthday quietly with family, offering prayers for good health and continued opportunities to work on meaningful films.
Rozina, one of the most recognisable faces of Bangladeshi cinema for over four decades, began her film journey in the late 1970s and rose to prominence with the hit ‘Rajmahal’.
She later earned critical acclaim, including National Film Awards for several of her performances.
