Sports presenter and media personality Quazi Sabir has reflected on his experience working in the Eid release ‘Rockstar’, describing the project as a turning point that challenged his self-doubt and changed the way he views his own potential.
In a Facebook post shared alongside a photograph from the set, Sabir said he still struggles to explain how he found himself acting in a Bangla film, despite harbouring the ambition since childhood.
“Why did I suddenly end up doing a Bangla film? I don’t really have an answer,” he wrote, adding that people close to him knew he had long spoken about wanting to act in cinema.
Sabir credited casting director Muhit Tonmoy for discovering him and director Azman Rusho for taking a chance on someone with no previous acting experience. Even after completing a look test, he said he remained unconvinced that he would be selected for the film.
He also thanked members of the production team for their support throughout the process and paid special tribute to veteran actor Shahed Ali, whom he described as a mentor during filming.
According to Sabir, the scale of the production only truly became real when he arrived at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation and found himself preparing to shoot scenes alongside Shakib Khan.
Recalling the experience, he admitted feeling overwhelmed. “I saw Shakib Khan walking onto the set. There were so many people, such a huge arrangement. Honestly, I got nervous and thought to myself that acting was probably not something I could do,” he wrote.
That uncertainty, however, soon gave way to inspiration.
Sabir said he began reflecting on Shakib Khan’s career and the way the actor had continually reinvented himself over the years despite criticism and scepticism.
“He was once someone many people looked down on and laughed at. Yet today, even after turning 40, he has reinvented himself and helped bring the drawing-room audiences back to multiplexes,” Sabir wrote.
The experience prompted him to ask himself a simple question: “If Shakib Khan can do that at this stage of his life, why can’t I at least try?”
Sabir described Khan as a “real superstar”, praising his professionalism, humility and dedication on set. He said the actor’s behaviour towards newcomers left a lasting impression, noting that he never felt uncomfortable while working alongside him.
He also argued that public discussions about Khan often focus on his films, personal life or box-office achievements while overlooking what he considers the actor’s most significant quality: resilience.
For Sabir, Shakib Khan’s ability to repeatedly adapt and rebuild his career in the face of setbacks offers a lesson that extends beyond the film industry.
Although he remains uncertain whether acting will continue to be part of his future, Sabir said Rockstar has already given him a lasting takeaway.
Whenever he faces uncertainty in his own career, he wrote, he intends to remember one lesson from the experience: “If Shakib Khan can do it, I can try too.”
