A resort owner and his manager were abducted early Tuesday from Nilachal area of Bandarban Sadar.
The victims were identified as Babumoni Karmakar, owner of Megh Duari Resort, and his manager Mohammad Abhi.
They were reportedly returning from the resort when a group of 10 to 12 armed men intercepted their motorcycle and took them away to an unknown location.
Rajju Karmakar, brother of the abducted resort owner, said the motorcycle was later found abandoned by the roadside in Nilachal.
He also said that no one has contacted the family or demanded ransom so far.
Bandarban Police Superintendent Abdur Rahman said security forces and police personnel rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the report and conducted searches in the surrounding areas.
However, no progress was reported till Tuesday afternoon.
Locals and multiple sources said a regional armed group had recently demanded a large sum of money from Babumoni, leading to tensions between the two sides.
Police said they could not yet confirm whether the abduction was linked to the extortion demands.
