Nurul Hasan Sohan says Bangladesh’s current T20 batting camp is giving him and his teammates a rare chance to work on individual skills, as preparations begin for the Bangladesh Premier League and the T20 World Cup.
Speaking on Sunday at the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association cricket tournament lottery, Sohan explained that the camp follows a brief rest after the T20I series against Ireland and comes at an important break in an otherwise crowded calendar.
“The last few months have been very busy with international and domestic cricket,” Sohan said. “We did not get the chance to do a camp like this. What we have done over the last seven or eight days will help a lot, because we have been able to work properly on our skills.”
Sohan said the timing of the camp is crucial, with little room for similar preparation once competitive cricket resumes.
“We do not usually get opportunities like this. This is the only time before the BPL. After the BPL, the World Cup starts immediately and everyone will be busy with matches,” he said. “The areas where players need improvement are exactly what we are working on in this skills camp.”
Unlike usual team-based sessions, the camp has allowed coaches to focus closely on individual batters, something Sohan believes will pay off.
“We are used to preparing together as a group. Here, coaches are working with one or two players separately. Batters are getting the chance to focus on specific things in their game,” he added.
Looking ahead to the BPL, Sohan said he expects improved pitches and stressed that performance, not reputation, will define success for his team, Rangpur Riders.
“Last year the wickets were better, and the BCB also wants good wickets,” he said. “Sometimes it becomes difficult because of too many matches or the weather, but I think the wickets will be good.”
On Rangpur’s prospects, Sohan said, “Big names do not guarantee anything, you have to perform on the field. Rangpur always tries to build a strong team and reach the final. If we can give our best, good things can happen. All the teams are strong, and the tournament should be good.”
