Ranbir Kapoor has landed in legal trouble after a vaping scene in ‘Ba***ds of Bollywood’, the new Netflix series directed by Aryan Khan, drew heavy criticism.
On the instructions of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against the actor, the show’s producers, and Netflix, with an investigation now underway.
E-cigarettes have been banned in India since 2019. The NHRC has questioned how the scene cleared censorship without the mandatory statutory warning usually shown during depictions of smoking.
In its complaint, the Commission argued that such portrayals could negatively influence young viewers, urging the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to take action and restrict similar content.
The series features cameo appearances from several Bollywood names including Ranveer Singh, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Emraan Hashmi and Arshad Warsi. It has also sparked controversy for alleged indirect jibes at India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede.
Adding to the uproar, Ranbir himself had previously said in interviews that he had quit smoking and drinking, leaving many fans surprised to see him vaping on screen.
