Heavy rain continues to fall at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, delaying the Women’s World Cup final between India and South Africa on Sunday.
Play was scheduled to start at 3:30 PM, but the rain has not stopped. Ground staff have kept the field covered with tires to prevent covers from being blown away by strong winds.
Officials plan to start the match once conditions improve, but overs are expected to be lost after the first two hours of play.
The final has a reserve day on Monday if rain prevents a result on Sunday.
Rain has affected almost every game in Navi Mumbai during the tournament, except the opening match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The India-New Zealand match was shortened, with the first innings at 49 overs and the second at 44 overs during New Zealand’s chase.
