RAB seized a massive shipment of Yaba being smuggled to Dhaka concealed within a salt-laden truck in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.
Company Commander of RAB-15 Teknaf CPC-1 Additional Superintendent of Police Nuruzzaman confirmed the matter. The detainees were identified as Kader, the truck’s helper, and Nur Mohammad, the owner of the salt.
Nuruzzaman said, acting on a tip-off, RAB learned an organised drug syndicate was preparing to smuggle a large shipment of Yaba to Dhaka using a salt truck through the border-adjacent Subrang area. RAB members set up a checkpost in front of the Subrang Union Parishad and intercepted the suspicious truck.
Although the initial search yielded nothing, RAB identified two suspicious sacks while unloading the salt. In the presence of locals, they opened the two sacks, revealing a large quantity of Yaba pills hidden using a special technique beneath the salt.
A total of 1,00,000 Yaba pills, with an estimated market value of several crore Taka, were recovered.
Legal action is being taken against the detainees, who will be handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station along with the seized Yaba and the truck.
